ALPINET: ALPINE CLUB MEMBERS' PAGES

About ALPINET

ALPINET is the website for members of the Alpine Club. Its aim is to be an informal forum for members - somewhere for you to email those Alpine Club members who don't mind being contacted, advertise an informal climbing trip, post reports and photos. Alpinet is a new facility for AC members, so we are still developing it. Features that should be completed soon include:

The plan is to make ALPINET what AC members want it to be, so please send feedback!

SECURITY

ALPINET is password-protected to protect members' personal details. You will initially be asked to supply your email address. This is immediately verified against the Alpine Club's records. If your email address is not recognised you will be invited to provide your name, address and telephone number so that the Club Administrator can update your records. The Club Administrator will then contact you so that you may join Alpinet.

If your email address is recognised then you will be asked to provide a username and password. If you forget these the ALPINET homepage gives details on what to do (don't worry, it's a very simple process!). You will also be able to select whether or not to receive email alerts or emails from other Alpinet members. Please note that if you don't want others to see your email address you can specify this in your Personal Details.

FEATURES

Personal Details: Allows you to update your personal details, and to select whether your email address is visible to other ALPINET members. Also specify whether you would like to receive an email when various items are posted on ALPINET, such as a new trip, a new report, a new item for sale, etc. Note that these details are identical to those held in the AC's records - if you change your address or phone number in Alpinet then this change is automatically made to the AC's central records.
ALPINET addresses: allows you to find the contact details of another ALPINET member.
Meets: Sign up for an informal or a formal meet. Are you going climbing and don't mind having other AC memvers come along? Then post your trip as an informal meet and an email will automatically be sent to members who wish to receive Meets Alerts. Great for sharing lifts or filling up places in huts.
Trip reports: Post a report of your latest trip. You can add photos and even add comments on other members' reports.
ALPINEmail: This allows you to contact everyone in Alpinet, or to contact a selected individual. Contact everyone if you are looking for advice about a particular area or want to let all Alpinet members know about something they may find useful. It is hoped that, as we are all members of the Alpine Club, this system is not abused. If you feel that an individual is abusing it or using it inapproriately please contact the webmaster. Please see below for Guidelines.

ALPINET Conditions and Guidelines

You are welcome to post messages on any aspect of mountaineering that you feel would be of interest to other AC members. Suitable subjects include:

Please do not post any commercial messages, including messages about topics in which you have a semi-commercial interest. Possible examples include trips/expeditions you are guiding (as a commercial guide), leftover expedition fundraising merchandise you want to sell, and messages promoting books you have written or films you have produced. If you're in any doubt, email the webmaster or club administrator. If the topic seems commercial, but of interest to the majority of list members, the webmaster/administrator will forward it to the list him/herself.

Don't post anything offensive or defamatory!
