JDC (John) Peacock 1931 2014 1966 Committee 1974 & 1984. Died peacefully on 20th August. Private cremation followed by Service of Thanksgiving at St. Andrews Church, Moretonhampstead at 2p.m. on Friday 12th September.

Died 2nd May from lung cancer.
A Memorial Service was held at Friends Meeting House, Jordans, Bucks, HP9 2SN on Friday 16th May.

RLB (Ray) Colledge 1922 2014 1951 Died 10th April. Tribute from Mark Harrison.
JB (John) Tyson OBE, MC 1928 2014 1952 ACG 1957. His funeral was held at St Katherine's Church, Boot, Eskdale at 3pm on 21st March. See the obituaries in The Telegraph , The Scotsman and Herald Scotland.
Mike Pinney 1951 2014 1982

Committee 2011. Hon. Treasurer 2012, Died 9th March while out walking in North Wales with members of the Yeovil MC. A memorial site has been created and you are invited to contribute tributes: http://michael.pinney.muchloved.com/.
A Memorial Service was held at the Church of St John the Baptist, Church Street, central Yeovil, BA20 1HE on Monday, March 24th  Donations to Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Operation.

ACG 1953, ACG President 1964. Died peacefully at his home in London on10th February.

JH (Emlyn) Emlyn Jones 1915 2014 1944 ACG 1953, Committee 1952, Hon Sec 1955, Vice President 1966, President 1980, Honorary 2007. Died 11th February, aged 98. His funeral was on 20th February at Ivenhoe Parish Church. See his obituaries in The Telegraph and Wales On-line.
Andrew Stuart CMG 1928 2014 1964 Died 27th January. See obituary in the Telegraph.
JJS (Jeff) Allison 1938 2013 1962 Elected to ACG 1962. Died 25th June. Well known for his circumnavigation of the Arctic via NW Passage & Northern Sea Route. See his obituary.

Karl Lugmayer 1926 2013 1965 Died on 17. August 2013, after a short, but painful suffering, at the age of 87, in company of his family.

Martin's funeral was on Friday 14 June at the Parish Church of St. John-at-Hampstead.

WG (George) Lowe 1924 2013 1953

Committee 1985, Honorary 2004. Died peacefully 20th March. He was the last surviving member of the successful Everest '53 climbing team. See obituaries:LA Times, Telegraph, Guardian, Independent . There will be a memorial service later in the year in Hastings, NZ.

Jürg Marmet 1927 2013 1959 Our longstanding member Jürg Marmet was on the second ascent of Everest and the first European to climb it. See his biography.
RG (Dick) Isherwood 1943 2013 1970 Dick was found dead at his home in Port Townsend, Washington, USA on Monday 25th February. He died as a result of a gastro-intestinal haemorrhage: a relatively quick and painfree end according to the doctor. Tribute from Peter Rowat.
GB (George) Spenceley 1921 2013 2000 George has died after a protracted illness. There was a memorial service at Deddington Parish Church at 3p.m.on Monday, 4th March, after a cremation.

Jack Wooding 1984 2013 2012

Aspirant member. We have been told that on Sunday the 13th January Jack Wooding was climbing on Coire An T-Sneachda when he slipped and fell a significant distance. He was airlifted to Inverness hospital and then moved to Aberdeen hospital where he passed away at about 2.20pm on 14th January with his family at his bedside. See report.and Daily Mail Report

Pam Caswell 1953 2012 1993

Pam has been found dead at her house on 29/09/12 – reason unknown yet. In 1994 she survived a horrific accident, in which her husband was killed after she had fallen into a crevasse on Mont Blanc see The Independent .

MH (Mike) Westmacott 1925 2012 1952

ACG 1953, Committee 1955, Hon Sec 1967, Vice Pesident 1977, President 1993-95, Honorary Member 2005.
Mike Westmacott, a member of the 1953 Everest expedition and stalwart of the Alpine Club died on 20 June. Mike was president of the AC from 1993 to 1995 and performed a great service to mountaineering through his development of the Himalayan Index, a computer database listing 2,500 peaks and their climbing history.

Peter Fleming 1936 2012 1976 Peter Fleming died 17 June. Peter was one of the few members to have climbed all 4000m peaks in the Alps. Many were done with Les Swindin.
Peter was co-author with Les for the Valais Alps East guidebook. He was a life member of the Lake District Nat Park volunteer service. A very active member of the Lakes Mine Rescue team and a long term member of FRCC.

Died 8th February in Southern Germany near Lake Constance where he had been living since 1963. He was son of a former President of the Alpine Club and author of several books on mountain climbing, Geoffrey Winthrop-Young, and grandson to William Cecil Slingsby who climbed mainly in Norway. Jim Harrison, an AC member since 1991 (aspirant 1985) died on Sunday 24 July at the Savile Club in London where he had been staying for a few days and meeting London friends. Jim lived in Edinburgh and, until his health began to fail, was a keen ski-mountaineer - a stalwart also of the Alpine and Eagle ski clubs. A former church minister,.

Nawang Gombu

Harish Kapadia writes:" Nawang Gombu, the legendary Sherpa, passed away today (24th April) morning at 8.45 am at Darjeeling, after brief illness. He was 80 years.
Gombu was one of two Tiger Badge holder alive today. He was the first person to climb Everest twice, in 1960s. He also made the second ascent of Nanda Devi. He was the Director of the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling and has trained hundreds on Indian Mountaineers in last 5 decades. He conducted many rock climbing courses, specially in hills near Mumbai.
Gombu was Hon. Member of the Alpine Club, London, the American Alpine Club, US, the Himalayan Club, Mumbai and many other leading institutions the world over. - Rest in Peace. Read Stephen Venables's obituary to him in The Independent.

Our honorary member Col Balwant Sandhu died on 10th December. He had been in a coma for 10 days in the Research and Referral Army Hospital in New Delha hospital, following being hit by a speeding car near to the Indian Mountaineering Federation.   Balwant wasa past President of the Himalayan Club. He and Chris Bonington co-led the Changabang ‘74 1st ascent with Doug, Haston, Boysen et al. He later ran the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering. When it is known if there is to be a memorial service members will be informed. See Doug Scott's obituary to him on the UIAA site.
