Over a 10-day period during mid January to mid February the AC will hold its first meet, together with a number of Romanian climbers, in the mountains of Transylvania.

This will involve two venues: the Bucegi Mountains, most likely based in Busteni; and at Balea Lake in the Fagaras Group. These will give the opportunity for multi-pitch mixed climbs, similar in scale to the Tatra with days of Scottish winter length, icefall climbing up to WI4, ski touring, and general winter mountaineering, ridge traversing etc. Travel will be by hire car or van from low-cost-airline gateway cities such as Bucharest, and accommodation full board. The meet will be jointly organized by Victor Saunders and Romanian guide Cosmin Andron, who assures us that there is plenty of potential in both areas even if conditions/weather are poor.

More details and exact timing will be available in due course, but in the meantime, if you feel motivated to take part in this exciting new venture, contact Victor Saunders (This email address is being protected from spambots.
