The Alpine Club's Scottish Winter Meet was based in the Corran Ferry Bunkhouse and many classic climbs were achieved.
The meet has been an annual and popular event for many years. This year the meet was based in the excellent Corran Ferry Bunkhouse
over the weekend of 14th to 15th February 2015, and it attracted exceptionally high interest. The 12 places available in the bunkhouse were rapidly filled, and an overflow at the nearby Fell and Rock hut in Kinlochleven
was arranged with the help of the acting hut booking secretary and attendees who were members of both clubs and who could therefore book in a number of guests. Eventually twelve full and aspirant members and guests stayed at Corran, and a further 15 at Kinlochleven, with many people making long journeys by car, plane or train.
Many classic climbs were achieved over the weekend at venues that included Buachaille Etive Mor, Stob Coire nan Lochan, Stob Coire nam Beith, Bidean nam Bian and of course the big bad Ben Climbs ascended included Curved Ridge, Dorsal Arete, North-West Gully, The Gash, Summit Gully, Point Five, The Curtain, Nordwand Direct, Ledge Route, Italian Right-Hand, and doubtless many more.
Thanks to the staff at Corran and the FRCC for the excellent accommodation, and also to the many attendees who were very understanding of the complexities of the two venue arrangement. We’ll be back next year; Roger Everett - Meet Coordinator.
