The Alpine Club, the world’s first mountaineering club, was founded in 1857. For over 150 years, members have been at the leading edge of worldwide mountaineering development and exploration.
With membership, experienced and aspiring alpinists benefit from a varied meets programme, regional lectures with notable guest speakers, reduced rates at many alpine huts, opportunity to apply for grants to support expeditions, significant discounts at many UK retailers, extensive networking contacts, access to the AC Library and maps - and more!
Becoming a MemberHere is a list of Alpine Club meets. Select additional pages using the numbers at the bottom. A list of past meets is can be seen by clicking here.
The Meets programme provides great opportunities for fellow members to get to know each other in the climbing areas of the UK and the mountains of the world. UK meets in particular offer the chance for members to drop in, even if it's just for an evening drink.
New members have often attended meets as guests of members before they joined and their presence on meets is particularly welcome both to widen their circle of acquaintance and to assist with maintaining that tradition of openness to prospective members. Non-members may attend meets as guests of members at the discretion of the meet coordinator.
Before attending please read the Meet Guidelines.

This weekend meet provides an opportunity for members to meet together and appreciate Scottish winter climbing as well as simply meet with other members.
Background
The majority of members and their guests, plan to enjoy the wealth of winter climbs to be found on Ben Nevis, in Glen Coe, and in other areas accessible from the accommodation. The grade range of those attending varies, with the majority happy in the Grade II to V bracket.
Some may prefer easier routes of a mountaineering flavour, but these require the same vital basic skill sets. In suitable conditions, some people may choose to ski mountaineer, but primarily this is a climbing meet.
The majority of the places will be for those who are applying as a pre-established climbing team.
Like previous years, a limited number of places will be available for those members wishing to join the meet but who do not have a climbing partner. To facilitate this, a “Matching” exercise is carried out, generally about the end of November, early December.
Aspirants and Full members who meet all the competency requirements are very welcome to attend.
Please note that payment is required to secure a place.
Accommodation
Accommodation has been arranged at two venues for the Friday evening, 27 February, and Saturday evening, 28 February.
The Corran Bunkhouse (£37.30 pppn) and the Alex MacIntyre hut (£20 pppn). The two venues are approximately 2.5 miles apart. The accommodation is self-catering.
If you have a preference as regards venue, please let the Meet Coordinator know. Please though note that depending upon uptake, it may not be possible to allocate you a place at your preferred venue.
Competency
You should be able to demonstrate a solid winter mountaineering CV, that shows that you have both the necessary technical climbing skills to lead Scottish Winter routes, but all of the other vital skills necessary to climb in Scotland during the winter under good or bad conditions with safety and responsibility. In reality, this experience will therefore have been built up over a number of winter seasons, across a number of venues and over multiple periods during those seasons.
When someone is wishing to attend the meet for the first time, or after a break, or if they are wanting to join the meet but do not have a partner “Matching”, then a template form will be provided to help to understand their recent experience and potentially assist with finding a climbing partner.
The form may also be requested from those applying as a pair to help understand the depth of their experience and therefore their suitability to attend the meet.
If you are interested in attending, but unsure about your experience, please get in contact.
What next
If you are interested in attending, please contact the Meet Coordinator, who will forward the meet information sheet. This provides more detailed information regarding the meet, including the accommodation. competency requirements and more information for those applying without a partner.
