Zaheer Durrani: Following Finch - Rock Climbing in Quetta, Pakistan
Tuesday 12 July 2022, 07:30pm
Tuesday 12 July 2022

Lieut J.R.G Finch wrote an article in The Himalayan Journal published in 1937 describing a number of climbs around Quetta city.  Among his many finds were two classic lines 'The Great Step climb' and 'Thorn-bush crack'. A second article published in 1940 also described a classic 1,500ft high multi-pitch route up The Grand  Arête of Takatu, a prominent twin peaked mountain with an altitude of 3,475m located to the North East of the city.

Zaheer was inspired by these articles and travelled to Quetta in 2017 & 2019 to repeat some of these climbs with the help of local climbers. He invites you to come and find out more about the challenges of climbing in this rarely-visited part of Pakistan.
