Jonathan Iggulden: First British Ascent of Volcán Puntiagudo; The Chilean Matterhorn
Tuesday 28 March 2023, 07:30pm
Tuesday 28 March 2023

After moving to the Cochamó Valley in Chilean Patagonia with his wife and four dogs to set up a cafe for rock climbers flooding to the granite cliffs there, Jonathan realised that he lived in the middle of a ring of 5 volcanos. When the country was put under military curfew because of riots and then covid, it provided the perfect opportunity to explore. Volcán Puntiagudo is a relatively unknown gem and Jonathan's was the first British ascent. Calbuco erupted spectacularly in 2015 and is now rarely climbed, let alone skied.
