In-spite of being moved to la Grave for the first time the event was well attended.

The 2016 Piolets d’Or awards, the annual celebration of the spirit of mountaineering, were fabulously hosted by La Grave, at the foot of the Meije. Amongst the some 400 attendees, the Alpine Club had a strong presence -  lots of club members in attendance, and AC faces on the stage. AC member Voytek (Wojciech) Kurtyka receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award; sculptor and AC member Andy Parkin made the awards (the hope of winning his statuette awards are the reason some people put films into the competition at Kendal Festival).

Some of the routes honoured at the festival were climbed by AC members Marko Prezelj, Paul Ramsden and Mick Fowler; the International Technical Jury included two AC members in Silvo Karo and Victor Saunders.

There were 13 AC members directly involved with the event in various different aspects. A good time was had by all and we look forward to the 2017 celebration!
